Wow, they bred pretty true. I see gold and even red&white. These often revert to the brown when they naturally reproduce.

Wow, they bred pretty true. I see gold and even red&white. These often revert to the brown when they naturally reproduce. That happens when the colors are single gene mutations and different mutations at that. If the genes are the same or are multiple gen mutations that contain the same/similar gene profile, then they breed "true". Whatever the he|| that is for a mutated fish! snuffy, breeding goldfish means happy fish. Happy fish means good water. Fish = fertilizer for plants. Hit Jamesp up for some aquatic plants! Oppsie------------- congradulations grandpa!

Next spring when water is about 75F you can put a breeding pair of Oscar cichlids and they will grow very fast feeding on your goldfish and probably having babies themselves.
Or a couple of largemouth bass:).
I have grown cichlids to large size over my warm season.

Oscars can be fun, especially Tiger Oscars. Really liked my Jack Dempseys and Convicts. Gave up the tanks when my kids were young, too time consuming.

Snuffy, you must be doing something right for your goldfish to breed. Whether you really want them to, well... I used to have two large tanks with Ciclids. Agree with Lee, way too time consuming! Also got expensive.

I also did jewel fish and mouth brooders. It was years ago.But i bought some and put them outside last year. and growing them out in the 500 and 1000 gallon boxes i grow water plants in. They ate natural and grew fast and healthy. Also bought 10 pairs of 10 fancy guppies and they multiplied to the hundreds. All no maintenance.

We put a few feeders in our frog pond nearly thirty years ago. Have not run out of them yet. The orange ones are quite noticeable, but there are as many that have reverted to the green...really have to look hard to see them. Woody

Jim do you sell the oscars back to the fish store? They worth 5X what you paid for them.
