These are some of the finds I made at the Vista show last Saturday. It was just a small club show, less than 20 vendors, I'd say.
I will number the photos so it will be easier for you to help me identity any I don't know.
1. I got two cabs @ $5 each from one vendor. Dino bone
2. And unknown. Burgundy filaments and white orbs, very pretty.
3. These are all petrified wood, petrified palm and palm bog.
4A. Nice blue/grey palm. Almost looks like bone, but it's not.
4B. (same rock)
5. Brown palm
6A. Petrified palm bog
6B. (same rock)
6C. (same rock)
7. Also palm bog, but this is clearer.
8A. More palm bog
8B. (same rock)
9. Another palm bog. This one is a little bit coarser.
10. Petrified wood
11. Unknown. Small, will make a single ring, no waste.
12. Chunk of pet wood
13. More pet wood
14. A couple of these, or maybe all, might be Rainbow Ledge material
15. more unknowns
16. Stone canyon?
17. Unknowns, smalls for rings
18. Woody thinks this is probably Maury Mountain Moss. Thanks, Woody!
19. Unknown agate
19. This is probably a rhyolite. It has little squarish feldspar-like crystals that glint blue.
20. Unknown, maybe coprolite? Maybe not?
21. unknowns
22. Chrysocolla?
23. Unknown. Wild looking!
24. Unknown agate with inclusions
25. Unknown agate
26. Agate with inclusions
27. Agate with inclusions (I've become a sucker for inclusions!)
28. Mossy-type agate
Alright, that's most of them. Other than the two cabs, everything else was from another vendor. He was selling his stuff for $5 a pound, I got 2 1/2 lbs, or $12.50 worth. There was something like 45 pieces. I liked being able to buy the smaller slabs, since I am currently only making ring sized stones. Not much waste on most of these. And buying slabbed pet wood was also the way to go, so I could spot any fractures. Not a crap shoot, like buying a shunk of rough can be.
Oh, and I got two books for 50 cents each, one of them on Gemtrails of Colorado. So I came away without too much damage, only spent $23.50. And thanks to barclay, for providing the ride there and back!
Thanks for looking, jamesp, eat your heart out! (Just kidding!)
