LOL. They didn't come cheap. It was already up above what I wanted to pay. Couple of deep pocket types kept bidding it up. I decided to play games with them. My bad !! they both dropped out and burned me. Oh well, I'll probably never see another for sale. It's mine now.
For anyone that's interested, there's some faceting parts in the lot. A couple of alignment jigs and a table dop. I can't use them. They'll be up for trade.

Last I saw it was about $26 or $28 for that lot of parts. Glad you got those. Not many of us old goats left that knew what those parts were. And the seller had no idea. He didn't even have the slab grabber jaws put together right.

There is a fellow I bought some small saws from that has, I believe, a 10" saw with a similar style grabber and he described it as being for cutting thunder eggs because he could grab them well back of center and then cut them in the center where the vise usually is. Can't remember the manufacturer. Or the price.

W.C. Antoine (Bills Rock Shop) also made an attachment for this piece that replaced the whole vise assembly in 10" saws. It had its own cross feed and everything. I have pics of it in an old Lapidary Journal.

I have one of the large size Bobs Rock Shop slab grabbers too, they are pretty sweet. If you have any dops for a Graves MK1 faceter I would be interested. Condition not so important, don't plan to use it for faceting, at least not for now.

Lee, in the pics provided on ebay, I can see that one of the transfer jigs is an M.D.R. Can't see the brand on the other parts. I know there are 2 different transfer jigs and a table dop holder. I'll know more when they get here and I have a chance to clean them up. They should be here by mid week next week. Depending on the condition, I may soda blast them before offering them to our members.

Found this today in one of the 1971 issues of Lapidary Journal. Don't know exactly when Bills Rock Shop went belly up, but a new company was producing his slab grabbers in an improved, indexable model. Gotta get me one of these for cutting sphere preforms.

Finally got my new slab grabber. FedEx sent it all over the country before delivering it here. Bare with me. I can only post 1 pic at a time. The original version of the W.C. Antoine rock clamp is on the left. The newer version on the right. The newer version will hold larger rocks and clamp securely in the jaws of larger saws. Front view. Side view showing a larger adjusting piece in the improved version with 2 screws to mount the jaws for additional strength. Rear view. Note the 4 screw holes in the back of the improved version. The reason for the 4 holes. An extension bolts to the back of the improved version for a better grip in larger saw vises. And last but not least. Something many who are lucky enough to have one of these slab grabbers don't know. By removing the front jaw pieces and reinserting the mounting screws, you can grip even the small pieces to saw.
