Do you have any good rock you can find locally? I've had good luck making trades here. I gather up something I can find here, send it far away and get someone else's local stuff in return. You don't really get to choose exactly what you're going to get, but it's fun getting a box in the mail and going through all the goodies inside. It's about $13 to send a medium flat rate box from the USPS, and you can get about 30 lbs of rock in one. That's a pretty good price for rocks.

I sometimes buy from the Rockshed and superagates.com has some of the best prices for tumbling amethyst and Botswana agate which are a couple of my favorites to tumble. Many of our members have wonderful material to offer too.....Mel

I live in Louisiana, so the only rocks i see are in the driveway, and ive already hounded it pretty good. BUT, i do work at a granite shop, so i have alot of material to pick and save. Just an example, a lady bought a slab of Blue Bahia the other day that cost $7000! It cost almost $14000 to get it installed in her kitchen. Im so new to this hobby that i dont really know what im looking for. I know i want Jaspers with alot of character, but other than that im sort of in the dark...

I'd recommend looking through the tumbling photos.Just about most of the stones, can give you an idea of what you want.
