Hi all, hope all is well with you, I am sicker than a dog so am at home in bed.
Last night I read a post where some one mentioned we should have a board for smithing. Gold, silver, copper etc. I have been posting in the creations forum when I do a project that involves smithing. Should we have a separate forum for this, should we just add silver smithing to the creations forum title or should we do nothing? I did not want to start a pole, just looking for some feedback.
I do think that we could use our owe forum, but adding to the creations section would work too. I believe there are some smithies around that would appreciate it.
I know i am a newbie to the board and maybe should be keeping quiet, but I ask anyway:)
Hope this make sense typing from bed on an iPad sucks. Epesialy doped us on drugs
Going to sleep I hope

Well, I think we might have to knock on one of the Rock God's doors for that one... Sandman or Mark should be able to help us out. I think it would be a great idea too.

You can't fight progress. lol A lot of Smithies work with more stone than a lot of us stoners so I think they would have some great things to post and maybe inspire more of us to take part in their passion. Jim

Might want to include base metals(copper, brass, zinc, Stainless) since they are popular these days.

Then I want to be called a "stone smithy wrap carver". Dang, that won't work either because I am not a smithy. I will have to be "stoned wrapper carver". Or just "crazy" will work. And Jean, stone person, you know that I was kidding when I accused you of cheating those guys out of their rocks right? I was going to question your answer over there but it "slipped my mind" just like 90% of the other stuff that I try to remember. On my table I have eight large sticky note pads with reminders written all over them. I plan on being a better rememberer in my next life time. Jim

Jim, you kow I was just pulling your chain, doncha? I knew what you meant...
Yes, I know you were kidding when you accused me about cheating those guys out of their rocks. It was actually a compliment, that I could get such a good deal. It's good to be tight - ah, let's rephrase that. It's, um, okay to be a cheapskate? How about fiscally resposnsible? Penny pinching? You get my drfit.
Like you, I have peices of paper with notes on them all over the place. I tend to lose important things - like thoughts and ideas, my mind - all the time. I should take a note out of my dad's book, and enter everything into my computer like he does. We all call it his electronic brain, 'cause that's where he keeps his thoughts, lol! I don't think that many of us actually use computers for "computing" these days.

Hahahahaha you are so right. I have not computed on here for probably over a year. It is nice to have the ability though. When I did compute I did some writing (hashing words is more like it) but it does not take very long before I need a year or two break.
I have heard that to sit down and write a book takes a huge amount of want to to sit there day after day and get it done.
Frugal Jean, frugal. and yes it is a good thing that I should have learned about fifty years ago. But, damn I had a fun life.
I guess I should add some smithy stuff here also. I for one would really like to know more about the art of metal in jewelry and not the kind of metal art that I do. The jewelry smithing is a whole another thingy that requires a large amount of precision with tiny stuff that I probably can not see without really good glasses and a mag light. If it is posted here I am more apt to learn it than I would if I had to search it out. Jim

I'm a Smithie and would greatly appreciate a section for Smithies (of all metal types).

Yep as I suggested in my original post, gold, silver copper etc. Scott the term Metalsmithing is perfect. So do I contact a site admin and ask if they will set it up?
thanks

So do I contact a site admin and ask if they will set it up? thanks Tom There is a forum for site issues. While this is a positive one, it is an "issue". I'd put it there with a link to this thread and all the positive feedback. Very bottom of the threads list.

Never worked with precious metals, but have around 40 years total working with sheet metal. I may be able to add a few tips to the subject.
