I bought a small slab of this at a rock shop, and then forgot what he told me it was..(I have a habit of doing that). I just know that it was a name I had never heard of and he promised me it wasn't dyed. It is translucent with blue streaks in it. Someone at the show told me it is Rictorite, Everyone else was baffled as to it's name. When I got back from the show I looked it up on the internet. There is not too many photos on the internet or much info on Rictorite. But what I did see, it does look like Rictorite and is expensive. I paid $22.00 for a slab large enough to get 3 cabs from. The photo shows it's true color. What do you think? Is anyone familiar with this? Amy

richterite seems to have a translucency to it. Can you backlight it?

*L* hate to admit my ignorance on non agate/jasper gems but I thought "richterite" had purple in it but I looked it up and see it does come in that shade of blue and the purple comes when sugilite in included. It is highly translucent though.....Mel

Here it is back lit by a flashlight. If this is rictorite, how much should I charge for the wrap? is it expensive?

Wow what a gem! It's a beautiful, I don't believe I've ever seen rictorite, even at shows. There's a few thing it could be other than that, but whatever it is, it is a truly exceptional cut of stone.

Thanks Shotgunner. I think I will wait to sell this wrap until I investigate it some more and find out for sure. Like, is it worth more or less if there is no sugilite inclusions? I don't see any in mine. I had this wrap priced at $65.00 at the show. I am glad now that it did not sell. How do you measure a carat?

I hate to burst your bubble, but that doesn't look like richterite to me. The color is too blue and back lit like that it looks more like some blue quartz from Brazil, I think. It's beautiful, though.

Quartz Mohs = 7 Richterite Mohs = 5-6
Will it scratch glass/obsidian? If yes quartz, if no or very barely, then richterite is still on the table.

Richterite does not look like that in my experience. That looks gorgeous though. Richterite can definitely be dark blue though.

I will try to scratch some glass and obsidian and let you know. It sure looks like the rictorite in the photos on ebay to me..
Maybe I should call the guy who sold it to me and ask him, if i can find his number. Oh, I found it. I will call him tomorrow.
