Greetings Ladies & Gents, I bought a 5kg (11lb) brasilian Agate boulder that had a bit
cut-out the top & side from Scottish Minerals & Lapidary Club for £10 ($16) including slabbing & delivery.
Slab dimensions: 115mm (4.52") wide X 75mm (2.95") high X 12mm (0.47") thick & weighs 224g (7.9oz).
2048w X 1536h 1,139.1KB (1,166,442 bytes)
2048w X 1536h 1,298.06KB (1,329,212 bytes)
2048w X 1536h 1,291.65 KB (1,322,653 bytes)
I am in the process of polishing it & have just completed stage 1 F80 Silicon Carbide on both sides,
I plan running it through F220, F400 on SiC too, before switching to diamond at F600, F1200,
F3k, F8k, F14k & finally polish it on F50k (0.5 micron) diamond.
F = Fixed k = thousand
Question 1: Is it better to polish the whole slab or just one side?
Question 2: What do you see?
I see the sea at the (bottom), a city or ships on the horizon (mid point) & a meteor coming down (top).
Question 3: Any idea what its worth for insurance purposes?
I plan on using as a display piece in a cradle, but i will be sending it to the USA to a friend.
