I've recently purchased the thumler ar2rotary tumbler from the USA and as I live in the UK it needs a step down transformer to convert 240v into 110v I've bought one from ebay it's a 45wattts max unit anyway to cut a long story short I've plugged it in ,, seemed fine but 10 minutes into running it the power has cut out and the motor and transformer are quite warm to the touch I've tried looking on the net to see if it's because this particular transformer isn't powerful enough but can't find any info I've also tried contacting tru square the manafacturers of the thumler tumbler but even they won't respond to my emails so I thought maybe someone on here would be able to help me maybe ... Hopefully because I'm at my wits end with this now

Thumler tumblers have a thermal shut-off built in to protect the motor from damage. If something causes the motor to run too hot, it will simply shut off. Simply unplug it, let the motor cool, plug it back in and the tumbler should be running again. If your AR-2 shut off, it could be because the motor simply overheated. Try unplugging it and see if it will run again.
Thumler tumblers run hot to the touch without triggering the thermal shut-off described above. When I say hot to the touch, I mean that you will be able to hold your hand on it without burning yourself, but you won't want to keep it there for a long time. This hot to the touch running temperature is normal.
If your AR-2 is shutting off, you now need to figure out if it is a problem with the tumbler, or with your step-down transformer. Make sure your AR-2 is free running. Do the rollers and bearings turn easily by hand? Is the belt aligned with the pulleys? You can adjust the pulley position on the AR-2 shaft if the belt is not aligned. Look for the tiny set screw on the pulley. Does the motor shaft turn easily by hand? You can oil the bearing through two tiny oil drop holes on the motor. Does the AR-2 run with empty barrels? You may have exceeded the maximum weight. A 3 pound barrel can weigh no more than three pounds which includes the barrel, the grit and the water. Usually, 2 pounds of rock will take you to the weight limit.
If the problem is with the step down transformer, I can't help. Good luck.
Darryl.

Greetings [fiona19021972], I noticed that the Thumler AR2 uses a Fasco motor too, the Lortone QT motor might work as a direct replacement. The main dimensions are 6mm arbor & 80mm space between the two nuts through the arbor, that hold the motor in place (from the outer edge of each nut). Arbor = Shaft that comes out the motor. See " Does it sound ok?" for motor specifications. You can order it at Rock Shed : Part #301-30 QT 6, QT 66, QT 12 Tumbler Motor. Remember to state you need a 220v 50hz motor. www.therockshed.com/partslortone.htmlYou will need a shaving adaptor plug & you will have to transfer everything off your existing motor. No doubt you will get another ramsome fee from Parcel Farce. Please check out my Sticky's below. -- Please click images to open larger images in a new Tab, same with everything that is Underlined!
