While sorting some recently acquired materiel I stumbled across this one. Any idea what kind of bone it could be. Is it worth slabbing? Looks kinda fractured and no exciting colors. Thanks, Tim

Not being able to heft the specimen, I have to ask, is it a rock or an old bone? Many badly weathered bones can look like that but are relatively light in weight. Is it crumbly? There is little way to id it on what I can see, but it easily could be the end of a limb bone of a large mammal (think cow, bison or elk sized). It could be almost anything depending on where it was found and what the age of the strata are in the area (if it really is a fossil). Tom

Hey that's a dino bone! I would just shave one end to see what the cell structure would be like....I find dino bone like that in Central Montana with the same dull colors... I just display my bones,I haven't the heart to cut them-LOL I'll buy slabbed bone, but just can't cut them myself....Weird huh.... PS: Nice piece, that's a keeper!!!!

Thanks for the ID. Since I am not a fossil type of guy, I decided to slab an end to clean it up. Some cool cell structure, just a few too many fractures to try and sphere it.

Wow, that is one cool piece of bone. Aren't you glad that you decided to take a peek inside? That is wonderful!
