hear ya. Had one of my t egg boxes show up to buyer with red stickers all over it, saying their sorry for damaging item. Box was just messed up. Now another of my t egg boxes I sent out recently using USPS has gone missing en route. I made shure nothing was poking the sides and taped them up pretty good.

I found out the skinny on the USPS box gorilla. I asked my postal friend why the boxes were getting so tore up. He told me about seeing a large machine with a cage that when full of boxes it very very slowly swings up and dumps the boxes onto a conveyor which in turn pours them into spiral slides that slowly take them to a lower level. If the heavy boxes are at the top they tumble down over the other boxes. This is where the damage has to happen because they are very seldom handled by hand.
Oddly enough, I used to build those conveyors and spiral slides when I worked for a company in Texas that got some of the USPS contracts when a new facility was being built or if they were doing an upgrade. I built one spiral that was 270 degrees and had to be built in three sections so it could be taken up in a freight elevator. It also had to attach to two conveyors, one at the top and one at the bottom. The slide was 30 inches wide and it was built around an eight inch steel pipe. The drop from top to bottom was something like 15 feet. The only way I could build it was horizontally on a special stand that I made to hold the pipe about five feet above the floor. The pipe sat in a saddle so I could spin everything to get the correct angle. I had no blueprint. The owner of the company came out with a paper that said "8 inch center, 30 inch bed, 12 inch side board, 270 degrees, 15 feet from bolt holes to bolt holes, eight in bolt hole spacing, three sections, when can you have it finished? I was pretty proud of it when I got word back that it bolted up perfectly top and bottom.
Now my and your busted up boxes are sliding down it. I did not build the cage machine so it is not my fault.
Photos not coming unless by some miracle they jump out of whatever box they might be in. lol Jim

BTW I had built a lot of lesser spirals before so I did not walk into it blind. It was the first one that we built horizontally though. Jim

Here's the box I just received from James Funny, the substitute mailman (not my regular) that delivered it, says "Careful, it's heavy." I told him it was rock, lol! I didn't weight it, but it couldn't have been more than 30 -35 lbs. What a wimp the guy was... Working on posting pics of the coral as I type this. Posting in specimens.

You're right, Mike. You win, hands down! And to think that we pay them to do that to our shipments...

Two boxes inbound to me from members have gone MIA within the past two weeks. They made it from the senders local PO to the sorting office and tracked as departed - then never heard from again. These boxes were coming from totally different regions. Total bummer. I dont care how cheap it is to send, if you value it - think twice before you send it via USPS.

That is pretty strange because I have never lost any. Knock on my wooden head.
Have you collected your insurance? Jim

I have to eat some crow....Both packages miraculously showed up on tracking this morning and were delivered this afternoon. Beat up and blown open and 10 days late but arrived. Good thing NSA is monitoring this site and inspired the USPS to deliver the goods. Just kidding, I am just glad they arrived.

I cant believe the t eggs made it, especially after being MIA for over a week. Glad they made it. I picked some good ones for you since you were the first to respond to my ad.

When I pack flat rate boxes I usually cut down one box to line the other with, the double walls help. I also pretty much mummify them in packing tape.
