Finally got back out to where I had picked up a few pieces of wampidy sunrise last summer. I thought there might be a bunch more but my son and I were in a hurry that day to get to the top of Sheep Mountain just a couple of miles out of town. Boy do I wish I would have gone back sooner.
On my way out there I passed through a road cut and had to stop and check it out. There was a mix with very little of the wampidy sunrise but I got some nice stones there.
The road cut. Not very big but a lot of rock.

First stone I came to is mostly yellow and it looks like there may be some banding.

A couple of interesting rocks that need an end cut off.

Headed to my intended location on the back side of Sheep Mountain. In this area there is an old washed out reservoir and on the up side of that there are ridges (fingers) coming out of the hillside where the water has washed small coulee after coulee. On the top of those fingers is where the wampidy sunrise is scattered. These rocks have not washed any great distance. In fact I am pretty sure that they were born and bred right there. With all of them on the top of those ridges it tells me that they were some of the last stones exposed by erosion and all of the stones that were in between the ridges are now under the top soil in the old reservoir.

Stromatolite with a showing of red. The stuff is all over the place around here but it is rare with the red.

I did not pick this up but I thought ya'll might like to see it. The top layer is sandstone then it changes to what I see as jasper then the thick layer on the bottom is agate. TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE. The one thing that I am positive about is that the top layer is sandstone.

I have a much better report for tomorrow which is today. Happy hound dog today because there was an abundance of the sunrise but also because I picked up some way different things also. That will come tomorrow which is tomorrow, or the next day. A lot of washing and carrying to do.
I hope you enjoyed my babble and photos as much as I enjoy yours.
