Fluorite does make a beautiful cab even though its troublesome to work. Its a shame the one crazed but the other looks great.

That's beautiful stuff! I've never seen fluorite that big or that pretty. May I ask where you got it?
Any chance you can re-cut the small one to a smaller cab or earrings?

Great looking material and nicely done cabs (shame about the crazing). I to would be interested in where I could get a slab of great looking fluorite like yours. I haven't tried working fluorite yet. I will note to keep it cool.

Lovely stones! But fluorite's perfect cleavage can be treacherous for cutters. I tried carving a beautiful piece some time back and ended up gnashing my teeth and cursing in frustration. You must have gentle and steady hands, unlike mine.

Thanks for the info on the heat fracturing problem. I have a beautiful slice of rainbow from China that I was a little too shy to try. I may stare at it a little longer.
The ones that worked our for you worked out beautifully.
Darryl.

Chuck, I get this material from an Ebay store. I love their AAA Chinese Fluorite. It is slabbed at .39" (or close to it) and is a dream to work at that thickness. Great high domes and very little fractures! The place I buy mine from is stores.ebay.com/Js-Gemstone-beads/Fluorite-/_i.html?_fsub=2769185011&_sid=982045131&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322 This is NOT the John we know at JS Gems. It's a completely different store. I have only purchased Fluorite there a few times but have been extremely happy with my slabs. They don't have a good selection of slabs available right now. Hopefully they will restock their store listing soon. When I have shopped I have had 20+ slabs to choose from... As far as re-cutting the crazed cab. I still have plenty of good material left on my slabs to cut several more. We have a charity auction at our rock club on Friday for a local Search and Rescue Unit. Since it didn't fracture to the surface I plan on donating it to the auction. It might not be able to be used in a piece of retail jewelry but it will definitely make a nice addition to someone's rock type collection!

Glorious polish on those cabs, what's your process? I've only cut one fluorite, it cuts nicely. Shame it's no use for jewelry.

I don't dry-polish any of my flourites or calcites anymore because of that. I go through the 3,000 grit wheel and that's it, done. Those are beautiful cabs

This only proves one thing: you're the shine fairy, not the fracture fairy Adrian

Thank you Krystee! I see what you mean about the selection and I would have been confused by the name, so thanks for pointing that out.
Like everyone else, I'm in awe of your skill!
