Could someone please tell me if they use stp as a demister which kind it is? Is it the oil additive? Blue bottle or red?? I found it on a forum last year and used it. It worked like a dream. I run all saws with white mineral oil. Now that it is cold we are heating our shop and all fans are off. Not venting mist and warm air outside. Was fine until today but now it is a cloud of mist and it's hard to breathe and I am outa there.
So if you know would you please post? Promise to write it down this time as apparently my memory is not so good any more. Darn it...sucks to get old;)

I don't know if there is a difference, but I used the Blue bottle, I believe it was some type of engine additive. Works great for controlling the mist, but gave it an automotive oil type smell. Better then mist.

Thank you so much for helping me!!!!!! I just received word from stp helpline and they thought blue bottle too:) And I agree the smell is better than sucking in all that mist. You are awesome!!!

I've heard Bardahl No Smoke is used for that.

the no smoke stuff is the way to go. it is cheap and easy to find and works really well. it looks like and has the consistency of cold honey.

Bardahl No Smoke is probably about the same as the STP. I use the Bardahl.

Great tip all. I stopped and browsed the snake oil (engine additives) department at NAPA, and ended up with a bottle of Napa NO Smoke. A bit cheaper than Bardahl with same honey like conistency. Tried a 4 oz shot in my 3 gallons of mineral oil in the slab saw. Did one slab sans no smoke as a control and 2 with the 4 oz treatment, and there was definitely a lessened amount of mist under the hood when it was opened. I might see a bit more foam in the tank but its not a problem and dissipates quickly. No detectable odor either. The NAPA bottle says it is extracted in (from) mineral oil, but admits to having unspecified ingredients. If I breath less mist, and have to wipe up less, I'm for it. Thanks again for the question Susan and the answers (others). Tom

The commercial anti mist sold by a large lapidary supply is repackaged Bardahl No Smoke. Do not use the one with the leak stop in it. WalMart usually has the best price. Woody

Glad it solved your problem, Susan.
I also use Bardahl No Smoke, but I've also started wearing either a face mask or respirator, too. I've noticed that even when I can't see mist, I can smell it. I spoke to an oil distributor who said that the white mineral oil has a tendency to become aerosolized. Just because you can't see it, it doesn't mean it's not there. Better safe than sorry. That's also the reason I stuck with No Smoke: it seemed to have the fewest additives.

Good suggestion about the less additives and also about the mask...thanks:) And even if it's not hanging in the air I am sure we are still breathing it so protection in the way of a facemask is a smart idea. I know it's not healthy to breathe that stuff and the other day I felt like I was having an allergic reaction. Never happens to me in the summer but all of a sudden with the place all buttoned up and the heaters on it was a way different story. I quit right then and got out of there but I hated to stop production...ya know? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) All is well now, so thanks a lot for your help Chuck and everyone who responded. I so appreciate you all sharing your knowledge and guidance with me! Sue

If it is a natural gas heater you may want to have your gas company check it too. A clogged vent or cracked heat exchanger will allow fumes that are acrid and weird smelling as well as carbon monoxide. Sorry for the change of subject but I did HVAC work for about 30 years.

Nope...it's electric but thanks for asking about it:) It was just a haze of mineral oil mist but I think the additive is working wonders! No more cloud anyways and I feel fine again!!! Bless you all for your kindness!
