What size grit would polishing compound be?

Typically it isn't rated by grit size. For rock polishes you can find micron sizes sometimes (especially for aluminum oxide). Cerium has 3 classifications, standard, optical, and super (or French). Tin is rated generally by purity (like 99.9% pure). Different polishes work better on different types of rocks. Fine (under .5 micron)aluminum oxide works on most rocks. .5 micron is about 50,000 mesh. .25 micron is about 100,000.

My advice is get that al ox polish from John, tge stuff is AWESOME!!!!
