looks like fireworks obsidian again Hmmmm. The consistency of the interior is not anything remotely like obsidian. Part of the matrix can be crumbly. The black portion of the interior of the rough is not nearly as glossy as obsidian. I can understand how it may look like it but it just doesn't pass the sniff test.

Sticking with fireworks obsidian; so I'll add - with too much fireworks making it crumbly.

I hadn't thought about that part. However, you can't see the fireworks on the matrix. Does that matter?

I'll second Scott's assessment. I thought fireworks obsidian the first time I saw it, and I'll stick with that too.
The integrity of obsidian can vary greatly, from solid and glassy, to crumbly. Any type of inclusions are going to affect that.
And you got it from where?

I saw a batch of "fireworks obsidian" at Q that was rhyolite at best, but they were still selling it as fireworks obsidian. The more fireworks in it the more impurities so the less like obsidian it is.
I agree with the fireworks obsidian as the trade name, even if it is not obsidian.

I was told the stuff I got was mined in Teotihuacan Mexico & was bought at Q. I assumed it to be form of obsidian so this discussion helps clarify things Ed

I have to back off my earlier comment about not seeing any fireworks on the matrix. It is all over the place so I must've been thinking of another piece of rough I did yesterday. I had a piece of rough that probably weighed about 10 lbs and I only cut two slabs. It just didn't have the quality I would like to have seen.
