I have a problem with my space baron the computer. For some reason it has started to run alltheletterstogether (like this). In other words, it doesn't space well anymore. I've cleaned the keyboard the best I can but there is no improvement. Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix this problem? Hitting the space bar feels the same as always so I don't know what the problem is.

Replace the keyboard?

yes, keyboards are cheap. Even for laptops, but those are a pain to install.

Our ACER laptop did that also. There is a program out on the net that fixes it.

It's a laptop. While replacement would work, it would be expensive!

Look under search for laptop keyboard skipping. You will find several that way. It is a common issue.

It's a laptop. While replacement would work, it would be expensive! The actual keyboard part is about $12 to $20. The tech shop installation would be about $140. I replaced mine. I watched some u-tube video on how to do it (some parts places have the videos on their websites), and got some tiny screwdrivers. I kept close track of each little screw and where it came from. I can be done. Sometimes you do not even need to open up from the back, but just pop off some plastic face plates and loosen a few screws that are underneath. The keyboard skipping problem does not sound like what you have. That is some sort of buffer overflow/dropout in the BIOS (basic input output services). A firmware update can often fix that. However, it sounds like you have a problem on the circuit board that is just under the keys. You describe the key mechanically working, and only this key affected. What is you exact model? Other things to try to confirm it is not BIOS, is to get an inexpensive desktop keyboard and plug it into a USB slot. (Get a USB keyboard, about $7 used). If it works fine, then the BIOS is working. If you do not want to fuss with parts and tiny screws, just keep using the external keyboard.

I have a Toshiba Satellite. All the keys work correctly but for some reason the letters sometimes run together. I just go back and put a space between several run together words when that happens. Annoying but for now I can live with it unless I can find an easy way to fix it (replacing the keyboard is NOT for the electronically challenged - like me.

The external keyboard reduces portability, but it should solve the problem (assuming it's the keyboard, not the bios). Then you'll want a wireless mouse and a big monitor. :-)

A problem for me with an external keyboard is that my laptop is exactly that - a LAP top. It would be impractical for any external device to be used. I may just try to take apart the space bar and follow the video on YouTube to see if I can repair it.

Wait. If the space bar is working when you go back, then it is not the circuit board. that would be a dead key. but if it is selective to the space key, it also does not sound like BIOS.
mechanical is possible.
does one side of the key work better than the other?

It seems to me that if I strike the space bar in the center, as opposed to say the right side of it, it works fine. If I hit the right side I can almost guarantee that the letters will run together.

that sounds very mechanical. you might be able to remove the keycap and check the little rubber springs underneath. replacement however is just connecting two tiny plugs. no electrical stuff. this could be part. depends on exact model: www.amazon.com/Keyboard-Toshiba-Satellite-Series-Tecra/dp/B000KJW5QIhow-to video: it is a pain, but you will feel like a god when you finish
