I'm tired of buying new small butane tanks, and don't want to pay for a big setup, so, as I have natural gas out in my shop - "I was always used to have one of these, but . . . " Gotta get another one. checked out Amazon.com. What a price range!:

I'm a little at sea here. How do you use a Bunsen burner for silver or gold soldering? Blowpipe?
I dislike acetylene/oxygen for a couple of reasons: acetylene's dirty and too hot. In a former shop I used to have natural gas piped to my bench. It's a cleaner and much cooler gas even when mixed with oxy. and is great for soldering control. Now I use propane/oxy although there are issues with keeping a full propane bottle in an enclosed area where excess external heat can cause it to vent. Propane is heavier than air and can pool in basements, garages etc. and can be ignited by pilot lights. Use with knowledge and caution! Rick

gemfeller, actually I'll be using it mainly for melting scrap silver for water, broom casting. I'll be using my horseshoe tripod to heat from underneath, and a propane torch to add the last bit of heat to draw the solder around. Lots of plans, but don't know if I'll actually get around to doing them . . .

I've seen that broomcasting before, it's really cool!! Do you cast with silver? Copper? Either way, once they are polished up they make for some fine pendants.

I especially liked pouring the drops in water. You get sea shell shapes etc. Way cool! I have a LOT of brass and bronze I want to experiment with.
