Hi All. Here are some of my results. Most of my rocks (and all pictured here) are random beach pebbles I find on the shores around Fife/Angus. Any ideas on identification of the rock types appreciated! These are the type of rocks which polish up best. I have a lot of others, particularly pale green rocks (will try to get a picture) which just don't shine. I am going to look at getting some Borax which Andy has recommended to bring them up. Thanks for looking! Ian

1 looks like quartz(Racing stripe) and felspar. Granite family 2 maybe gneiss. looks like hematite stripes-see the metallic sheen 3 that is a trophy. like #2, see the metallic sheen(black/silver areas) the red may be jasper or felspar? 4 breccia? wow is that neato 5 ? 6+7 fine grained quartz or quartzite or fine grain granite. 7 is kinda weird. those half moons are fractures. may mean that it is hard and that often means polishable or it got beat to heck 8 hoping that res is jasper. the black again looks like hematite. red could be felspar. It is really better if you have jaspers and agates. But those may be crystalline type family. To check for agate and jasper you can hammer break the rock and look for smooth breaks like glass breaks. They offer a wide range of color and patterns , the jaspers

You did a really nice job shaping and polishing those. I really like the third one.

Nice rocks, it's interesting that I find rocks in gravel pits like 4. But in Sasatchewan Canada, I mean exactly like it. Very cool

I get alot of those and some with grey hematite in. Some are way too big to fit in my tumblers!

3 looks like jasper with hematite, i find it here in Yorkshire. I'm going to start tumbling it on its own i think because when i put it in with other stones the hematite seems to scratch/mark the other stones?

always very satisfying to polish your own finds. Nice rocks you got there!

I'm going to start tumbling it on its own i think because when i put it in with other stones the hematite seems to scratch/mark the other stones? I've found some rough hematite which I got in a pack I got with other rocks when I first got my machine. Got that now in a tumbler with some others. I guess the result will give the answer to your question. Will report back (in several weeks!)
