Yeah, Matra Mountains moss is some of the most beautiful in the world. Great lighting and photography in the pics helps a lot too. The few examples I've seen in person don't seem to pop as much as the ones pictured but they were not out in bright sunlight. Very cool that the guy who posted these was able to really capture the sunlight colors....Mel

Fantastic. Germany also yields some beautiful agates. Maybe time for Shotgunner to organize an agate field trip to Europe.

You are likely going to Jail Tommy:) I think just about all of the land is private property. Although I am sure you can get permission.

I was busy taking this image Any chick that can carry twelve full one litre steins is alright in my book. It's not so much that each hand is carrying 25-30# but more so that she can wrap her little hand around all the handles.

Agates seem to be found mostly along the Rhine and Danube (Danube river-beds are also known for fossilized wood) in Germany Austria and Hungary. But the most intriguing Agates from Europe in my opinion come from Turkey. As most rivers need maintenance of banks, I would presume that most of it state property rather than in private hands at least in Germany and Austria. The only stones you will find at a Oktoberfest are eventual kidney-stones. But yes, I worked alongside some of those galls for a season in mid 80's, and those girls are tough, plus usually can drink any costumer under the table.

I have to say that I am highly suspicious of rocks on black backgrounds as they are extremely easy to photoshop to supersaturate the colors and it is hard to detect. Not saying this is the case here, but I sure would like to see some other known reference colors in the shot. I know of other rock picture cases where the reds were this incredible and yes, it was a case of manipulation. Anyway though, those are really gorgeous stones.

Spent some time in Germany with the Canadian army, some of the best times in my life. Love the country, people and the beer. Yep it amazes me how those gals can carry all of that
