We have a friend - her daughter and our daughter are good friends; our families have become close since her brother - my good friend - passed away 3 years ago. She has battled cancer since she found out she was at stage 4 just after he died. She's made it further than any of the doctors thought she would, but she will have hospice care coming in starting Monday because the doctors now say there are no further treatment options available and it is evident to everyone that she is nearing the end. I've had this faceted citrine for a few years and recently I thought of trying to wrap it for her, just to let her know we are thinking of her and to have something she can give her 11 year old daughter - something that can be special as her light is fading that she can receive so she feels valued in what must feel like such a helpless place. I can't possibly hope to make anything that could be valuable enough or special enough or important enough so I just wanted to make something small, but meaningful and beautiful. That's a lot of heavy stuff, but in spite of all that I still wanted to try. I'll send it with her family tomorrow because I don't know when we can see her, she's been in the hospital with a virus and dehydration the past few days and just went back home today. Anyhow sorry for the long, sad story Another in daylight Here is her daughter and our daughter at tonight's Living Nativity put on by our church. Our daughter is on the left (they were shepherds, I guess they were supposed to look grubby) Our friend's name is Kim, if you are the praying type I'd appreciate any prayers for her and her family.

That is so beautiful and the story although heartbreaking is now a big part of that piece. I'm sure she will cherish it for as long as she has left. You are such a sweet guy thinking of her and doing that for her. Prayers going out for all of you.

Yes, this is a sad story, but you brought so much love and compassion to it. It's a really beautiful piece and with all the care you put into it, too, it will always remain a very special piece. What a wonderful friend you are.

There was a cool follow up, when her mom took her the necklace she said that her husband had bought her a citrine ring when she was first diagnosed to encourage her, and that citrine was her favorite stone. Her mom said they both cried and she was super happy with it.
Had no idea citrine was her favorite stone, I've had the rock for a few years and just felt prompted to wrap it for her starting a couple weeks ago.
