Hello, I found the below rock yesterday and thought it would be nice to polish it. I did alittle research into rock polishing yet not sure if I'm ready to invest into getting needed equipment. I'm curious if there anyone in the orlando area who wouldn't mind polishing an extra rock next time they polish their own rocks. The one in question is shown below and about the size of a golfball or slightly larger. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone would be kind enough to polish this rock for me. If someway I could make it mutually beneficial I'd be happy to.
Thanks
Xavier

Hi Xavier, welcome to the board.
It looks similar to our friend Jim's Wampidy Sunrise but if you found it in FL it's the wrong location obviously. It's hard to get a size perspective from your photo - maybe post some dimensions and weight etc. Also if you don't limit yourself to the Orlando area you might have more success - we have people on here from all over the world. The USPS has flat rate box cost - small starting at $5.80 - whether you ship locally or ship to the far corner of the US. If it fits in a SFRB and it's worth 12 bucks to you for the both-ways in shipping, might be a good possibility.

Actually I'm in Kunsan Airbase South Korea. I go home for my mid-tour (leave) next month and will be flying into Orlando. I don't mind shipping it if someone was willing to accept it with funds for return shipping. Not sure if it natural here or came in with construction it was on the surface of heavily walked on path where grass didn't grow due to heavy traffic. I was thinking it was quartz.

Its around 2'' in diameter and I don't have a scale but it doesn't feel overly heavy for its size.

If the colors in your image are accurate I'd guess rose quartz. It looks pretty fractured but you really can't tell much from an image.

Xspringer, Actually help may be closer than you think. Many military bases have lapidary groups/workshops so it may be that you can ask around the recreation areas and even if your base does not have facilities, someone will have been at a base that does and might be able to help you out. I know one of our senior members in our local rock group developed a tremendous knowledge of labidary while stationed in Germany in the AF. Good luck and keep picking up those rocks and sneak them into your stuff coming home on leave or reposts. Tom
