I haven't cabbed too much lately as a lady quit at the rock shop and I have taken over her shifts in addition to the ones I already had. Not complaining because I could spend every minute of my free time playing with rocks whether cabbing or just meeting, chatting and selling someone else's rocks to cool rock people, LOL! Any way, it hasn't stopped me from getting more rocks!!! I got some killer new stuff to work on in 2014! Scott @shotgunner sent me an INCREDIBLE box of Lavic!!!!!! Thank you Scott!!! I am in the process of trying to locate and buy a used power feed saw to replace my crappy ancient gravity feed one that can't be used in the garage, so I haven't been able to slab any of it yet. Hubby told me that is my Christmas present! I haven't found one yet on Craigslist though Next is some killer Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper I just got. I am thrilled with this! I've also been going to a friends house to slab up that gemmy Amazonite I posted awhile back. The stone did not disappoint! It is gemmy aqua throughout. Here's a couple of the pieces: And.... I've also been collecting Obsidian from several different sources. In the next month or so I will be working on Fire, Red Ribbon, Midnight Lace, Mahogany morphed with Rainbow, Damascus and others. And lastly.... I got two boxes from Rodney of different varieties of Chrysocolla and a tiny bit of Cinnabar! Here is one of Rodney's Chrysocollas that I managed to get in! I've got my flat lap in the kitchen for winter cabbing. Just need some more free time now!!! Thanks for looking! ~Krystee

Stu, I haven't cabbed the Amazonite yet. I'll post all of the cabs of each material as soon as I can work it though!
Gary @gr Thanks! I'll send Tony a message!!! I'm looking for a good power feed somewhere in the range of 12" to 18". The one I am using temporarily at my friends is a Lortone and I absolutely love it.

This rock came from an old stock estate collection and was not labeled as to the collection site. I've been told from most people that they believe it is Russian but, I have also been told that this type has also been found in a mine in VA. The rind had smokey quartz on it. Here's a pic of the rock.

I've seen Smoky quartz in perthite amazonite in that color from there. Virginia is another possibility, but I've not personally seen any with Smoky Quartz xtls.

Seen some on the show Prospectors that seem to be this color but I haven't seen them in person. Have you?

Yes, some of the CO material is intense blue-green. There is a lot of variation between the several locales, though. Some of the Amelia CH, VA had a similar intense blue, but AFAIK, most of that dried up many decades ago. The only amazonite I have been able to locate from there has all been lighter aqua shades, sometimes with the albite streaks. It is too bad that they didn't come labeled, but from wherever, it will make great gems with that degree of saturation.

That amazonite & ribbon OB is super cool. I've never heard of ribbon before. I hear ya about cabbing indoors. I moved my work table inside after I kept losing my stones off the dop sticks lol

I have a small amount of the old stock blue-green Amazonite out of the Morefield Mine in VA and it almost looks like turquoise with white webbing. I believe the Morefield Mine in Virginia is producing again though. I haven't seen any of the newer amazonite material in person but in the photos on this website www.toteshows.com/morefield.html some of it appears to have good color. Larry C.
