The first milestone wrap would be my 14 yr old sons first attempt at wrapping a stone. I have been trying to get him to try it for months with no success and all the sudden outta the blue he asks me to show him how. I have very little patience and he has less then me so it was an interesting hour for both of us. In the end I thought it came out great and even though he wont admit it I think he like the way it turned out too. I even made him do the patina with the great smelling liver of sulfur. The second wrap is one I made for my wife's 40th B-Day. I guess you could say its our local lapidary material since we live just north of the Ford plants. I usually prop up my wraps on cool interesting rocks but that didnt work for this one so I had to improvise. Thanks for looking, Chuck

That fordite is so cool. You really nailed the intersection on that cab. It amazes how shiny that stuff is. I see metal flake silver.
Looks like a great wrap. Congrats to your son.

GET OUTTA HERE! Is that really your son's first? What a prodigy he is. That is one great wrap! I love the fordite. Haven't cabbed any myself, but I'm sure liking yours. Happy birthday Chuck's wife!

Thanks all. I wish I could convince him to keep doing more but I dare not push, lol. He tried one yesterday while I was at work and the tape was not sticking good so he got frustrated and gave up. I finished that one for him by doing the bail and I'll post it later today.

Wow, that is great, I wouldn't have guessed it being his first wrap. He sure has a knack for wire wrapping. Maybe show him how much we liked it to encourage him a bit. I'll bet your wife will be very happy on her birthday. Cool cab and wrap.

If that is an impatient 14 y/o boy's FIRST WRAP, then I quit today, before I ever started. Dang, proud dad you must be.
Young boy is learning his Jedi cred young. Is his name Luke?

Your son rocks! and that fordite wrap is awesome. I can see that piece as either a car emblem or hood ornament. it just has that sports car style. It does the stone proud.

Both wraps are perfect. Your son's wrap is incredibly well done. What a special pattern on that fordite!

Great wraps, and great that you could spend the time with him to work that one out.
That fordite wrap is out of this world cool.

This seems obvious but I don't know the answer so I figure I'll ask, do you first wrap and then apply the patina or do you do the patina on the wire first?
Assuming you wrap first is there any concern over the patina solution affecting the stone?

That fordide is incredibly cool Chuck. I love the look of it I have not wrapped. Having said that I know I probably would never wrap as nice as your son did on his 1st try. Too bad you can't get college credit for that Bill

Assuming you wrap first is there any concern over the patina solution affecting the stone? John, I use liver of sulfur (gel version) and its always done after the stone is wrapped. That's how you get the cool effect of dark in the recesses (like in the bindings) and shiny on the exposed parts. After a few seconds in the solution all of the wire will be black and then you just rub it with 0000 steel wool till you get the look your after. The most porous stone I have done was probably pudding stone and I had no issues with it. Hope that helped? Chuck
