I ordered 25 pounds of Petoskeys off ebay and started cutting into them to see if any will be cab grade. I think I cut into at least half of them already. These are all just hand fed into the 6" trim saw. I do not cut petoskeys in the oil slab saws. Here's the keeper pile of ones that show some potential And here's the scrap pile ( its a bigger pile the the keeper pile) Thanks for looking Chuck

How do Petoskys tumble?

My short answer is that they dont. They may survive 60/90 and 120 ok but after that hand polishing is best.

You have some cool slabs there! They should make some really nice cabs! I know I have some, I am going to have to find them now and make something soon.

Cool stone. Coral at it's best. The preservation is awesome.

Are they too porous for oil? Are you afraid the oil won't come out? As far as I know, my friend who works with Petoskey stone cuts them in oil.

I cut a wide variety of stuff and my oil is usually a nasty brown mud so I guess I was a little worried about staining since its so soft. This stuff is so soft I cut that whole pile by hand in less then an hour and I am sure I would have spent a lot more time then that just clamping rocks in the slab saw. With it being so soft I dont even care if the slabs are 5/16 or 3/8 thick since after I cut out the preforms its simple to quickly grind it down to close to 1/4 anyway. Chuck

Ok, I hadn't thought about staining. They are quick to cut, aren't they?

Some nice future cabs in the first set. Will you tumble the other group?
