A number of RTH'ers have posted their thoughts on Bardahl. I was at Minnesota Lapidary Supply in Princeton, MN today and picked up a small jug. Blooped some of the super-thick goop in the LS12 and on the first cut saw had super results.
Also talked with Val, the owner, for quite a while. He is a top notch guy and is very knowledgable on nearly all aspects of lapidary. I was chatting with him for well over an hour and he did not try to work his business at all but just enjoyed giving some lessons to a near-neophite. A great ambassador to the hobby.

Thats the stuff Scott, bottle looks different in Canada but thats the ticket. A good sized blob for 2 gallons of oil, maybe less, and no mist at all. Likely cheaper to get in an auto store David, but what the hell you got an hour of good rock talk thats worth the difference in price if there was one. It works great.

Sounds like about the same stuff as STP oil treatment. also seen some additives that say "Motor Honey" which is very thick and should work well. sounds like you had a blast talking to the owner

I have used Stop Smoke about the same thing. Most auto parts stores carry it.

Lortone puts their label on it right over the factory label. Kinda funny. And like Tom said, the long talk was well worth the extra buck or two.

So, let me get this straight: If I put some Bardahl into the sump of my saw along with the mineral oil that's already there, it'll stop the big cloud of mist when I open the saw after a cut? That would be cool! Rick

I have been using a product called XM-5. I put one capful in my LS-12 and one capful in the LT-10 and never have a misting issues. Product is odorless / clear / non toxic and bio degradable. I have been using the XM-5 in pure mineral oil in both saws for over 3 years now.
Product is made by HMF Oil Co Inc Estevan Sask. Canada.

Tom - my saw is 14". I'm gonna go ahead and give this a try. That blast of dust laden oil mist when you open up your saw really bugs me because I never think to wear a mask when I go to grab the slab. (poet!) No to mention the suspicion that there is a light mist in the air of my garage anytime the saw has been running. Thanks! Rick

Today I put about 2oz into 4gallon of laxative mineral oil.
NIGHT AND DAY!
No fog even when opening the hood as soon as the blade stops. For $8 I can treat 32 gallons of oil! Lifetime supply!
I have learned so much here. Thanks to all of you more experienced muthas doods!
