I wanted some copper solder to play with. Rio Grande had the best price, but a full pound was more than I wanted at $27. I checked out www.rawtreasures.com/Bought 5 feet for $3.75 FREE SHIPPING! To quote Arnold, "I'll be back!"

I use the stuff from rawtreasures. It's really good. A great color match. I did a lot of research a while back and found these people had the best reputation for color match.

OMG $27 lb for 8% phosphorus??
I found $20 for bronze (adds tin), but that seems to be the going rate. That's a lot of profit built in.
Love to see the braze results.

amyk, this is the first solder I ever used. I love to solder with it. I don't use any flux at all with my copper to copper soldering and I have never had a problem. It melts fine. I've done way more copper soldering than silver because I have found it easier to do. I haven't done big pieces, though.

I haven't lit my torch since trying to solder with German Silver Bezel Wire! I was going to go ahead with soft solder, then thought "Why not keep it all copper?" Thus the purchase.

Amy, I have both the color match and the not color match from Rio, both melt fine and work for me. You must be heat sinking your heat away. i bet when you get the charcoal block it will be much better

I buy a lot of my base metals from Monsterslayer. Copper solder was about 10 cents a foot the last I bought 3 or 4 months ago The wife makes a lot of Chaine Maille and MS is usually cheaper on wire, etc. than Ring lord

Thunderbird supply has a good selection of native American stamps. Not all are on the website so it pays to call. They will also have a custom stamp made for you. A unique feature of their stamps is whoever hand makes them uses push rods, intake and exhaust valves and a host of other re purposed materials. They are hardened and hold up quite well

How can the torch not be hot enough to melt the solder if it is melting the metal?

Hi Amy, do you have a picture of how you are set up to solder. All I can think of is that the way you are set up the heat is being drawn away from the solder but not the bezel wire.
Is it just the bezel wire that is melting? Is the base plate melting? Have you just put a piece of solder on something to see if you can melt it?
If you have some larger (14 gauge) copper wire file the ends very flat and roll it into a circle, don't worry if its not perfect. The put a piece of the solder on the joint and try that. your micro torch won't melt the copper I don't think, while they say 2500F I bet that is best case.
Several things you can try to experiment, I feel your frustration and we want this to work for you. When will your charcoal block be delivered? I really think that will make a big difference
Hang in there
