A friend of mine used to take a vacation to Australia and bring clay back that had opals. Maybe just to keep them damp?
Any way, he they were always rough and quality was on a hand shake way back then. He would cut them and make a lot of money.
He had a rock shop but those opals were a big part of his income. And he and his wife had long visits. What a life.

This should be an opal sticky. I think you represented just about all of them. Only a few I can think of that are missing. It's amazing to me how many kinds there are. You did a great job with these. I esp like the Spencer opal.

(doh)Wow Tony! I cannot decided which one I like best. They are all beautiful! I still can't see how you can keep hold of the tiny stones without doping! They would be flying all over the place if I tried that

Thanks everyone. I rarely dop. Even though I have long fingers I manage without dopping. I've tried it and it works OK, just not worth the effort in my opinion.

Those are great, what a nice body of work!
You do them all without dopping, even the 1/4" ones - that is hard core. I can't do it, my fingers are too fat and I lose the stone (I've shot several off the split hide disk and never found them)

Amazing collection Tony! I am with John, how do you manage to cut a stone that small without a dop? My fingers are pretty long and slim (sorry John about the fat fingers:)). At any rate I need and use a dop on all sizes of cabs. I like the Brazilian boulder opal best, the material is great and so is the shape!

Awesome opals! I have just started messing with them, though only Koroit Boulder so far. I am afraid to try solid opal After seeing how soft they are, I can really appreciate what you have finished here! They are gorgeous!
