Hello all and Happy New Year. Hope that everyone's year is going well and that it stays that way through out the year. As for me, can I say busy, busy, busy. My kids bought me round trip airplane tickets to California for Christmas. I returned on Tuesday and on Wednesday I went to the Orthopedic Surgeon. We discussed scheduling a double total knee replacement surgery. When I was leaving his office I was told it would be 2 to 4 weeks before it would be scheduled because we had to wait for the pre-authorization and they would be in touch. I received a call on Thursday afternoon asking if I was available to schedule my surgery for Tuesday afternoon. WHAT? I thought that they said 2 to 4 weeks, the nurse said that she worked really hard to get the insurance companies approval because she had a cancellation for Tuesday. I jumped on it. So Tuesday, January 14, 2014 I am going in for surgery, having both knees replaced. I will be in the hospital for 4 to 6 days, then probably rehab for a couple of weeks. Hopefully I will be wrapping the entire time but I will not be able to get to the basement to cut any cabs. I am hoping I will have time to be lurking on the board, we will see.
Hoping for the best,
Tammy

Best wishes on this, don't hurry your recovery, and you will be fine. I know several people who have had this done, all say glad they did it.

Well, now that I am on my way to recovery I thought that I would post and let you all know how I was doing. My surgery was on the 14th, it lasted about 6 and 1/2 hours. I was in the hospital until Friday and then I went home, my husband is here to help me. I have a bed in the living room,I am still not able to do flights of stairs and the bedrooms are upstairs. PT is going very well, I am in less pain now then I was before the surgery. Tomorrow I have the staples removed from my knees, 54 of them in all. I have been beading and wire wrapping, I wrapped 8 pieces over the weekend, I will post photos a little later.

Hoping for the best, Tammy Wow...both knees at one time. You must be very athletic. I had one done in April 2013 and the next in March 2014. I called right around Christmas and my surgeon was already booked into March. I can't believe they approved you so quickly... that is a miracle. You didn't go into rehab and they let you out of the hospital when you cannot navigate stairs. Surprised they let you go home. But not that surprised, they dont let people stay in hospitals very long, do they. My wife wants me to go to rehab this time. They will not permit that if you have someone at home. Good luck on your rehab...I think it was 6 weeks before I was able to give up the meds, recovery is better when you get to that point. charlie

Two at once! I have a friend that had the first one done, then when healed did the other. The second went tougher than the first.
Getter Done sounds like a single recovery rather than her double. Tough choices!

I had the staples removed today, 54 of them in all. There was a gal in the Drs. office that had arthroscopic knee surgery the same day as my replacements and she could hardly move. Chassroc, I used to be athletic, but the last five years I have just been in a lot of pain. I think that the five year chemo drug that I was on after my breast cancer had something to do with my knees losing all of the cartilage inside. The warning on the drug said it has a side effect of joint pain. I feel very lucky to have the care that I received and to feel so well in just this short amount of time since the surgery. I am now riding a stationery bicycle and doing a lot of walking.
Roy thanks for the offer to send me some cabs, I really appreciate the thought, besides you can never have too many cabs.
Thank you all for the well wishes,
Tammy
