Hi all, My 2 oldest are having birthdays (one in Jan, Emma will be 14! - Corben in February will be 11) - and I had hopes of taking them to quartzite on a monster road trip. Well it became obvious a few weeks back that wasn't going to happen (time/cost) - so I started poking around for alternatives. I pinged Jason ( NM Stone Supply) last night to see if he had any recommendations for Northern or Central NM. We can get to Abiquiu, NM in under 7 hours so I am thinking of following his recommendation on hitting the lake and surrounding areas and seeing if we can collect a bunch of pretty stuff there. Jason has a post about a previous trip there as well: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/14059More info on Abiquiu: gemtrails.com/845/abiquiu-agate-nm-site-38/If we drove another 3 hours west we could be somewhere where we could look for (possibly not find though) Blue Luna Agate, so that is an option. 4 hours south and we could end up near Jason's Rhyolite mine and he said he could get us to some collecting areas there too. I'm wondering if anyone has any other thoughts on the SW US? I'd be up for Eastern Utah, NE/East AZ but want to head somewhere there isn't snow on the ground and if possible it were a little warmer. I've never done any hounding in any of those areas so I am going off what I can scrounge together from the web. I've not had good luck with gem trails books in the past due to active claims, new private fences blocking me off etc. so any up-to-date info would be awesome! Thanks all, I know this is last minute, but if I can pull it off will be a great time for me and the 2 older kids.
