will that color up on heat treat? Nope. It is so pure Scott. No metal salts. Or at least a lack thereof . Oh, it will turn white. So i do not cook it. I like that clear smoke color more that white. That came from the same shoal that has the botyroidal cavities that Donnie and Jean make those cabs w/holes. Hard as a ...brick bat. Have to hit this stuff 10-15 times harder w/a hammer than that one i did on youtube. It is grainy and awkward to chip. Also like the tube 'tracers'.

Those tubes are neat looking. I have been playing with the chips and chunks you sent me, I really like the coral. The highly agatized stuff is indeed as hard as MT agate, takes a while to cut a slabette. Even the grainier pieces seem harder than many jaspers. Can hardly wait to get enough done to run the vibe.

This coral is clearish but grainy. Very tough. Thin chips are hard to do. If you wipe your finger on it and it has grainy feel it needs to be heated to chip well. Oddly, it chips smooth after grainy material is heated. Why?? The Florida natives way liked the coral more than the common chert. And it works well too. Apparently it is also liked by those from Montana w/native blood in their veins.LOL

Heating allows the atoms to move around and reorganize the molecules, like annealing metal.

I like the color & pattern in those. Rich Are you staying warm Rich. My heat pump does not do well below 30F so i have been burning a lot of firewood. It was 4 a few days ago and 3 a couple of weeks ago. That is all well but the constant low highs and wind is persistant. My 3 hounds have found a home on the couch.

Keeping warm, pretty much. I even managed to get a few cabs in, but it took a couple of days in the unheated garage rather than an afternoon.
