Here are various photos of two Norena jasper cabs. I'm still searching for a decent background, I don't think I found it yet. Please let me know if you see something I can improve on in the cabbing or photography. Thanks. Double fine cabs Rich. Using material from down under.
The ones on the crystals are the best photos. As if they are in a light box.

Have you tried a light box with a super plain background? I know it would be hard to find a little stand to keep the rocks propped up... when they're that polished and pretty they like to slide. I made my light box with a cardboard box (holes cut out and filled with white paper). One day I dream of buying a pop-up fabric one on Ebay.

Thanks for the input.
All of these photos, except the hand holds were taken in a home-made "light box" of cardboard & tissue paper. Perhaps I need to play with the lighting some more. I'm using two lights, one over head & one from the side.
I do like the idea of a plane background but you hit the nail on the head, I have not firured out how to hold them up while I take the photos.
I'm super cheap & trying to use stuff on hand :>)

Maybe a little acrylic 'slab stand'? And just plain white paper behind... no texture, no color, nekkid! Makes it easier to touch up with a photo editor too. Photography is the hardest part. No fair... should be easy! (I'm eye-rolling-ly-cheap, I get it.)

Lovely cabs I'm not going to comment on the photography as I am still really struggling with it myself. For propping the stones. some kids play clay, we called it plasticine when I was a kid but my grandkids use play clay. (same stuff) Window putty would work. Blu tack is even better.

The cabs turned out great and look best with your crystal backing. Seems to really sharpen the colors. Fran

Your cabs are beautiful! Photo suggestions: crop to have the cab take up about 80% of the photo; use a plain background so the cab is the star, and the only star of the show.

Thanks all, for comments & especially for the input. I'll try cropping next time. From the comments, it sounds as if the geode "background" works when there is enough contrast between it & the stone but not so much when the stone is gray or more light in color. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks again!
