Using a food vacuum sealer and heating at 170F in the oven. The coral has 100's of pores per square inch. Soak it in water or oil it and the color gets deeper and richer. This treatment lasts a long time. So far 6 months out in the weather. Other agates may respond well too.

The coral drys as does our cherts. Proof is shown by artifacts. We classify artifacts made of fossiliferous cherts(and coral) as river finds or field finds.
River finds have been kept moist and are rich in color. Field finds are often heavily bleached.
Destructive testing by breaking an artifact to look at the center will give a great idea of what the material looked like when it was chipped into an artifact since the bleaching is usually on the surface.
And a field find that is not bleached is special in that it is probably of the highest quality material.

My favorite job was supervisor and 18 union workers. We had a blast. You let me sneak under the union radar and you get to sneak under the management radar. Out of 6 departments we stayed caught up and twiddling our thumbs waiting for product and piling it on the next dept. I would hire a girl(one that 'works' for money) to go in there and give them back rubs every once in a while. Those boys were doing most of my job while i was setting up my own business.
Take advantage of the schooling. Weird how this country can place more emphasis on that than experience. Politics man.
I was in manufacturing. Most of my support came from low ed/high experience. They made more sense and got the job done.

there really are not many people that have hazardous waste license. Also a lot of people might get them but they don't keep up on the refresher classes and then your license is no good. The classes are good, they pay you to go and you get college credits. Im close to getting a degree now. You have to take the class in order to step foot on hazardous waste job. Its all approved by the state. They have state guys there during the class. If I did hazard waste class outside of labor union it would be about $3000 for two week class. I usually just pile all the classes up in the winter.

At that low of a temperature you don't have to worry about a cool down period do you?

I'm curious, are you heating it in the bag? or removing it to heat, stupid question but I admit there is a lot I don't know, and I am curious.
BTW... love the colors too !!!

At that low of a temperature you don't have to worry about a cool down period do you? Dave and Mario, I took them on to 200F. I just heat them for 20 minutes in the bag and let them sit in the closed turned off oven for several hours. To liquify the vaseline(and it turns into thin oil). That oil keeps them hot for a long time. Therefore increasing it's ability to really get into the agate/coral. I do it 5-8 times over a 3 day period or longer. Just to have lots of time to draw in. The final heat i remove them hot and dump them on a full towel laid flat and rub them dry. Then leave them out to dry for a few days. A lot of agates were created by precipitated water. And are greatly effected. And petrolatum is skin friendly. After a few days give a final wipe down. You would never know after. Not greasy at all. Petrolatum in vaseline is also the moisturizer in chap stick. Dave, that fine moss you sent me would be enhanced.

I was given one to use to stabilize rock with Opticon but never got around to using it. Should get hot enough to open the pores in the material.

After vacillation they get put in a baggie and marked done(can't spell vacillating w/out spell check). Really brings the fire out in them.
