Chuck I noticed like you that sometimes extended time in the Loto returns a lot of fractured bruised looking rocks. That shine is incredible!

Rick: Actually the tumbled stones disappear at quite a fast rate *L*. When I was in the Ventura Club, all the tinies went to the sand sifting game at the kids booth at the show and all the big ones went to grab bags or the treasure chest at the show entrance. Now, I take the ranch kids for nature walks or tours of my rock shop and both end with them going through a big bin of my tumbles and each child picking out a bagful. Funny because usually, the parents fill their pockets full of tumbles as quickly as the kids *L*. Also, I send a big box full to Lowell(elementary) for his school kids and sometimes, still a boxful for the my old club's show.......Mel

I like to tumble to use the rocks for photography subjects. To see details of interesting mosses, corals, death plates and such details. Digital photography intrigues me. And someday use them in metalsmith work.

Those are all good causes, Mel. I guess I'll have to find some local teachers who can use my old stock to good advantage. Kids are naturally intrigued by pretty rocks and crystals.

Rick, another thing I've done here locally is I'll buy one of those compartmentalized plastic boxes and give kids a set of a few dozen identified tumbles complete with location information etc. They can take them to school and share them with friends or teachers, swap them back and forth etc. I made one for a buddies kid and after his siblings saw it, I wound up making three more of them for the other children. Works as both a geology and a geography lesson. Fun for them and fun for me....Mel
