I have always loved rocks and have always wanted a tumbler. Hubby bought me one for Christmas! So the adventure begins! Still deciding where to put it since it will run constantly.
I don't have a lot of time to dig through the boards this morning but look forward to learn and share. Loving the posted photos=)
Susan
Remembering an interview with singer Huey Lewis while spending time with his very young daughter, about 2 if I remember correctly. They were outdoors and she picked up a rock and said "look daddy, it's pretty!" He looked at it and realized something as simple as a rock could be pretty.

Welcome! more than one of us here started with just a tumbler and a desire to polish rocks - now it's a full blown addiction - saws, cabbing units, flat laps, etc. hahaha. Pat! I had no idea you were from San Jose - I guess I'm not very observant haha. I work in San Jose - live in the east bay.

Good one, Bob! Well, while we're at it - Susan, a hearty welcome from Spring Valley, CA, extreme SoCal (10 miles from the Mexican border). Now your day is complete.
A Star Diamond tumbler from my parents about 44 years ago also got me started in this rocky hobby. I still have it! A lot of knowledgeable people here on this forum, you will learn much, Grasshopper. Maybe even have some fun while you're at it...

Hi from Davis! I got my first Lortone 3A tumbler when I was 5. It finally died last year - almost 50 years old!
Love your name by the way, I have tried just about everything under the sun as far as hobbies!

Hi to all. Must say, it is a nice, friendly bunch here.
Hi Pat, I grew up in Fremont, probably not far from Tommy. Yes, Tommy, I am prone to hobby addiction. lol Hi Bob and rockpickerforever, Sorry, I don't know Spring Valley or Valley Springs, lol. Yes, I am a very green grasshoppa and plan to enjoy the process. Hi Radio, my Grandma still lives in Turlock, close to Modesto. I don't think there are any rocks there, just sand, lol. My brother is in Missouri and loves it! I should have some more time this week to look through some of the threads as I decide where to set up the tumbler.
Have a great week!
Susan

Susan, I lived in San Jose for 41 years but 5 years ago when I retired I finally found the key and escaped from the madness of Silicon Valley. Valley Springs is about 50 miles south east from Sacramento in the Gold Country. I haven't found any gold here yet. Bob

I'm president of the Mother Lode Mineral Society. Our meeting place is in Modesto and our show is in Turlock. My wife has a classic car that she takes to the American graffiti show in Modesto. I'm certain it is a far distance from any of the original locations that they filmed in. I don't think McHenry Blvd is the same! Bob

Hi Susan, greetings from another new member from CA, I'm in the Bay Area. I am totally obsessed with this Board and all things RHing. If anyone ever organizes a field trip on our side of this great state, perhaps we'll get a chance to meet in person. Wouldn't it be great to add to our collections?!

Welcome Susan from N.C.. Yep, it's a terrible addiction! I am pretty new at it to and it just keep growing! Wow, a lot of folks on here from where I grew up, Ca.! Grew up in San Jose and my mother grew up in Angles Camp area. Remember a lot of the areas mentioned! Came to NC in the 70's with USMC and never left.
