paparon here! Started rock collecting (kind of) about 40 years ago...made yearly fishing trips with my grandfather to Crescent City CA. Start fishing @ 6am always done before noon... was fine for my grandfather but what was a kid to do?..He took me down to a beach and told me "there are Agates here now find them" Showed me how to use the sun (when it was peaking through the clouds) to my advantage and have never missed a trip to the beach when visiting CC (to fish) if not to find just one agate! So time flies and I have taken both daughters to CC and just last year I took my granddaughter (4 years old) the beach was her new home she loved it and let me tell you.....EVERY ROCK on the beach was an agate...not really but they were to her...lol So the enormous amount of interest she showed has resulted in very easy Christmas presents for my granddaughter .....tumbler and everything that goes with. I had a dresser drawer full of agates from over the years but could not bring myself to polish them as they all were just perfect and everyone had a good memory....shoot so sorry I look up and have filled a page with ramble...anyhow I am on here to get help with tumbling rocks....my first question is (if you have made it this far ) Since all of our rocks will be beach rocks do we still need to use the first stage of grit to smooth them up? And then my second would be ... What stage can we start at if they are nice, clean well rounded rocks? Thanks so much for having this site and keeping it up I know it takes a great deal of time!
