As usual, things don't work out as planed (Quartz and Wood broke during reshaping). But the Rhyolite held up and is ready for polish. A little fun for Valentine I call "First Kiss", or in other words: The one he still talked proudly afterward for months.... Nice shadow-play, lets hope it will survive polish that way Need one more, so will try again in Chyrophrase from Indonesia

The use of the wonderstone pattern in the girl's hair is genius! The comic expressions of the caracters are so well done!
All in all, superb!
Adrian
PS. "Quartz and wood broke during reshaping" you say. That's what I meant a while ago when I said about your determination. To have the strength to start a project for the third time, yet with no guarantee it would be finished, that's beyond me.

Thanks everyone. Need to practice faces, while not as young as I hoped for, here they turned out comical to benefit overall intend. Lets see if I can repeat in the next one, yet get hopefully a completely different mood into it.

very nice use of the stones coloration and very imaginative! I am new here ,but from what I have seen you have quite an imagination for design. I have been carving for maybe 6 months and you have opened up my mind to other directions!

oh, a couple of questions, do you smooth your carvings with diamond burs or rub stones or? Like I said I am relatively new to carving 6 months??? Welcome to the club. I'm only at it for 3 years, so I'm a cub myself. Just go through the various posts in the carving-section; there is lots to be learned from all the different artists and their methods of going about. I shape with diamond-burrs (don't know the grid), then take sanding-paper (usually 400/600/1200 and 2000grid) to it and finish off with 50K Diamond-paste on felt followed by leather. That does not give you an absolute glass-finish, but gets close. I find the step-down better for small objects that are not translucent. If transparent like clear agate, carnelian and large surface Jade, you got no option but mix in cerium plus double-time on every step.

That's a really clever use of the natural pattern in the stone. Very creative, nice work.

Not yet James. Since those pics where taken, a few more hours have gone in, and I'm still trying to overlook a few things that I saw in today's pictures. Hope to be ready by Valentine with this one and another (this is number one in a set of two)
