I hurt myself a little today working on the new/used diagonal lap. I got careless trying to adjust the water drip and the diamond disk cut me to the bone (good thing or else I'd be short two fingers). The funniest thing about it is that I was pissed that my cabbing was interrupted, more than the pain that was numbing my digit. During my pity party I realized what a Small price it is in the "big picture", but dang, I think I lost some feeling in the tip.

EEEkk.. That speed on flat lap can be excessive and if you catch the edge of the lap unfortunate results
I spin an old 8" S/C wheel that heavy the Ameritool. It gets wobbly & all crazy and if it ever broke apart it wouldn't be pretty
take care= mend well keep on shining edmohs

Ouch! Glad it wasn't worse for you! Post a pic of your machine so we can get a look at the culprit and maybe throw tomatoes at it for being mean to you

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad nobody called me careless - which I was. Machines are like Mother Nature, get careless, get hurt!

I have ground fingers and nails painfully short, but have never suffered anything as severe as you. Thanks for sharing because it reminds us all to use care. It's all to easy to work when tired, or hurry to get something done, or simply be distracted. It only takes a fraction of a second when machine parts move quickly.
To add insult to injury, it sounds like you may be out of commission for a while. I (we) feel for you.
As gross as it sounds, there will be many interested in a photo. We've had some "doozies" posted since I have been a member when it comes to lapidary injury. LOL.
Get well.
Darryl.

Ow! is right!
"The funniest thing about it is that I was pissed that my cabbing was interrupted, more than the pain that was numbing my digit." A true rockhound feeling!
Hope you mend well and soon.
