I know its been two years since I joined, but I really am a fearless procrastinator.
So here goes. Born in Netherlands, migrated to Australia when I was 7, and apparently grew up there as I now have 3 kids and 7 gkids back down under.
Holidayed in US in 2000, met Karen, now happily remarried and down to only holidaying in Oz.
Like most of RTHers been collecting rocks all my life but gathered momentum when Karen and I spent 5 months in Gallup (ton of pertified wood in basement) and again when I found some delightful rocks on the beach in Alaska (sent home about 100 lbs). Just never stopped picking them up after that.
Joined RTH and connected with Connrock who has been mentoring me. We have fun communicating. We both regret the lack of fellow enthusiasts in this area of the woods.
I have done little except collecting my gear together and learning how to tumble rocks. I have a petrified wood fetish, probably because that is the rock I most found in Oz, most likely because I find it easy to identify. And now that I have produced some (a lot) of polished pet wood I am even more fetishised with stone wood, I just simply love to feel of a nice piece, the vast array of colours (that's how its spelt in English), the tinkle noise when you hit two thin pieces together.
But RTing is not all I do, I also dabble in furniture refurbishment and genealogy. I have in my database details of about 99% of all Nieuwendijks (including variations) born before 1900, and a lot born since then too. If you are a Nieuwendijk, Nieuwendyk, van den Nieuwendijk, Newendyke [the US mob] etc I can tell you who your ancestors are.
Anyway, there you have it, I will soon post some pics of the 40lb of rocks I lugged back from Oz back in December, wood, agates, jasper (soft, not hard variety). When I get a chance, and when I stop procrastinating.
Tim
