Awesome is an understatement for that place!! I have watched a couple of documentaries on it and was glued to the tv! They even used special suits with ice packs and breathing apparatus to venture far into the cave and they are limited on the time they can spend exploring even then. Seeing a person in that place makes one feel kind of microscopic and/or insignificant, doesn't it?!?!?

I know the temps are extremely hot!!! Yep. I don't know if anyone will ever be able to explore the place to the full extent because of the heat. I sure hope they can preserve the place and it doesn't get destroyed by some profit seeking corporation!

I fail to see how they could do so as the crystals will crumble if removed from the cave due to some whatchamacallit requirement of the minerals.

There is a working lead/silver/zinc mine in very close proximity to the Crystal chamber which was discovered when drilling from the mine shaft if I remember correctly. The Crystals in the chamber could be destroyed if the active mine isn't careful

I also saw a few AMAZING shows on this. If I remember correctly, when they turn the pumps off, everything will become submerged.
Submerged in an extremely hot silica-rich hydrothermal solution ... maybe this is the environment the crystals need to grow bigger.

That because that is what the crystals are!
