Man that lavender fossil coral is cool!.....Mel Could that be palm Mel ? Or coral cut at an angle...The rough shape looks like coral.

Yup, I've never even seen that color in coral before. I do have one Indonesian slab with a little light purple but, I had a long talk with a dealer at a show one time and those red colored cabs with the really well defined polyps are from heat treated material....Mel

It is a good one to heat treat since it changes colors so much. Check out this large drab coral that changed color drastically to purplish color. Looks like a piece of concrete w/a rust stain around it. This is a piece of it tumbled. In natural sun light. What causes the purple ? Iron...?

Fine heat treatment jc. That color coral changes to purple. It is not easy to find. The color is just off from many corals. That 'rusty' color sure looks like iron. Indonesian coral turns similar colors too. What's w that ?
