This is a new to me rough that I've started cutting this week. Massive chatoyant crystals throughout the entire stone. Stone has a pleasant green color with silvery chatoyant patches. Nearly the entire slab is chatoyant from some angle. Comes from the north Cascade mountains in Washington State. Photo taken wet in sunlight. It's hard to photograph chatoyancy, so any tips would be appreciated.

nice! Looks like a mix of serpentine or tremolite and actinolite. You made a nice cut.
The best way I have seen to show chatoyancy is to make a little video for youtube. Then you can move it around in the light to show the movement in the crystals.
I keep hearing actinolite is ONLY found in Wrightwood, CA but it's clearly not true! I hear it from old timer goelogists too. I wonder why.

Neat! I think Washington state has some nephrite with chatoyant actinolite too. Shows kind of a catseye effect....Mel
