We have about 1/8 inch ice. They predict round #2 is coming today. With a lot more. Driveway is impassable. Power has been off 3 times. Mostly off. Trees not damaged yet. Before ice After first wave

That will make a mess of everything. You'll have more firewood to sell with those fire bowls than you know what to do with.

And the trees are good for firewood. That tangled up bamboo is a job. Makes great bonfires. And that is it. The ice is the worst. Snow/sleet is no problem. Power is flickering. Hear 3 transformers pop within a mile. Fingers crossed

Hope you have a generator, James!
I lived in Atlanta for a few years and remember the ice storms, although this one sounds like a doozy. Spent several hours at the northern GA border one year Easter waiting for 75 to open after a big snowstorm.
We get plenty of snow here, but ice storms are rare. Snow is easier to deal with.

Power out for 12 hours and then 30 hours. We missed a terrible ice storm. It went to 28 and sleeted. I am worried about Augusta. It was really supposed the get heavy ice.

Chuck Thank you Chuck. We get ridiculed for being idiots when there is snow/sleet. Probably some are. But the ice will do in an Alaskan, Greenlandian, Icelandian-you name it. Sorry you got to experience such. But thankful for your respect. It nailed them further south. In 73' we had .5 inches and it snapped 32 inch trees 120 feet tall like tooth picks. Most houses were damaged. Predictions for Augusta are 1.1-1.9 inches. Can not imagine such.

I know Pat. You S. Cal. girls are too busy basking in the sun and listening to the Beach Boys. I'm jealous.

We get ridiculed for being idiots when there is snow/sleet. Probably some are. Well, when it's such a relatively rare occurrence, it doesn't make sense to invest a lot of money in snow equipment. I don't think there's any good way to deal with ice, except to wait for warmer weather. I think in terms of being idiotic, it's just a lack of experience that makes people underestimate how dangerous that weather can be and how cautious you have to be driving. I'll never forget driving through Atlanta one night after a coating of ice. Most people wisely stayed off the roads and we were driving down 85 at about 40 miles an hour. Somebody flew by going at least 60. Sure enough, they were in the ditch a mile down the road. Chuck

Two weeks ago it was the worst case of black ice we ever had. 60F the day before, then one inch of sleet and 25F the next day. It melted perfectly to a 1/2 inch layer of dead clear ice. The kids in many schools spent the night at school.

I remember driving down a long (luckily deserted) curved black ice coated highway in the middle of the night one Christmas eve with my young family in the car. Started at the top of a hill at 10 mph, was doing 60 by the time we got to the bottom and finally coasted to a decent 15 mph again.
I NEVER want to do that again!

Idiots are everywhere when it gets slippery. I was coming home from work one evening at a comfortable 10 miles/hr. on ice and had a very impatient person come right up on my rear end. We got to a short straight in the road, he passed me and lost it a couple hundred feet further on. The guy didn't go off road and I got stopped before hitting him. Followed him for several miles at a nice comfortable 10 mi/hr.

Dave, I'm not trying to "top" you but I had a terrifying experience years ago when I tried to drive my little Volkswagen Bug from Pocatello, ID to Salt Lake City, UT in the midst of an ice storm.
A bit north of Brigham City the ice-coated 2-lane road dipped into a half-mile swale. I saw headlights headed toward me but my little rear-engine car had shown it was pretty sure-footed on ice. Miscalculation! For some reason it lost traction and began whipping around end-for-end into the opposite lane. I watched the approaching headlights and began saying silent prayers for both of us.
At the very last moment my car regained traction and I was able to steer into the right lane. My sense of relief was only exceeded by the other guy's, I'm sure. It was a very scary event and one I hope to never repeat.

You see more of where you came from than where you are headed.

I know Pat. You S. Cal. girls are too busy basking in the sun and listening to the Beach Boys. I'm jealous. 87 degrees here yesterday. Yeah, I got a little sun, while I was cabbing. Used to listen to the Beach Boys while in high school, newer music nowadays. Idiots are everywhere when it gets slippery. We don't need ice here for drivers to become idiots. Apply a sprinkling of rain, just enough to get the road wet - that'll do it!
