I've been in GA since '91 & this is the first time I have had to shovel snow. Rich Poor Rich. About 15 years ago the south side got 12 inches. It was amazing. And it was like March 15 and very cold. I found song birds every where that did not make it.

18 hours ago jamesp said: I know Pat. You S. Cal. girls are too busy basking in the sun and listening to the Beach Boys. I'm jealous. 87 degrees here yesterday. Yeah, I got a little sun, while I was cabbing. Used to listen to the Beach Boys while in high school, newer music nowadays. I am cutting bamboo down w/a saw bladed weed eater. That is a work out. 11:30 ish, and it's already 83 degrees outside. Gonna put something appropriate on both me and the stereo, and go get some more of it. As soon as I get the groceries put away.
I cut two cabs yesterday, one is a California fossil coral (freeform), the other is from a slab of Turkish Rainforest jasper that I got on the field trip to North Cadys in November. No, I didn't find it out there, it was a gift from @shotgunner ! That is what I was gonna use for the smallest of the belt buckles, but after grinding it down in height, most of the lovely green color I was going for disappeared. It's still nice looking, but has changed. I think I'll go hunting through the stash and see if I can come up with something else I like.
James, did you have any tree limbs come down you need to saw up? Or just the bamboo?

Had a good many limbs down. Lots of little ones and a good many big ones. A power pole got pulled down. But by the bamboo. Trees and limbs are easy. Cleaning up a bamboo grove is the hard part.

I've got my share of ice stories. There was the time when I was a teenager driving my dad's pickup home from visiting my parents. We were on a two lane road with steep ditches on either side. My dad had me drive because he didn't want to!
Then there was the time when my newlywed and I were driving on the interstate and I couldn't figure out why everyone was going so slowly; it didn't seem that icy. Then I figured out that it was icier than I thought. I took my foot off the gas and my car started to fishtail. I'd gently correct for the skid but then it would start to skid the other way, but worse. My wife and I started telling each other how much we loved each other when we finally did a 180 through the median, across the two oncoming lanes, between cars, and ended up in the grass between the freeway and an off ramp. I drove off the interstate onto a 2 lane highway and drove about 5 mph the rest of the way, shaken but not stirred.

Hi, James! I wanted to know if you sell any of your bamboo to Zoo Atlanta for the pandas? I'm a big fan of the panda cubs that were born last year. They're a hoot to watch on the panda cam. They behave like puppies and are a bit mischievous.

They behave like puppies and are a bit mischievous. They came down a long time ago to get samples since i have so many varieties. They were trying different types to see what the Pandas like best. They harvest 200-300 pounds of bamboo a day ! Takes a lot of bamboo to feed those guys. Too funny Jan, their favorite was our native semi-arundinaria weedy stuff that grows in our wet areas. They have become southern fried Pandas.haha
