I'm getting quite the education just trying to figure out this one set of jewelry for my sister's wedding. My current conundrum is this. After an exhaustive search for sapphire at a reasonable price I suggested that we use the slice of dyed blue agate that has belonged to her fiance for many, many years. It broke during their last move and he gave it to me to use on whatever I wanted. Being a very analytical type he said nothing about it being upsetting to him that it broke, but my sister saw his face when he saw it broken. She agreed that this is the best way to give the slice new life.
I finally got all of the shapes drawn on the slice the way she wants them (with a pair of cufflinks for him as well). I plan to use the dremel with diamond blades to cut out the shapes (the tile saw is too hard to control for this). Then I went to check the width of the slice compared to the 3/16" bezel wire I just got in. The slice is taller than the bezel wire... So I'm trying to figure out what to do here. The tools I have are as follows. A tile saw, a dremel, a rotary tumbler, and a vibe tumbler. I had planned to cut out the shapes and put them in the vibe to round and polish the edges. I'm thinking it won't take enough off the width to make it fit. For the setting I have 3/16" bezel wire, 16 ga square wire (which I had planned to use to make a step on the bottom of the bezel wire), 3/32" bezel wire and 30 ga sheet are on the way. Is there any way to bezel set this thing with what I have? How would you more experienced folks handle this? She wants an open back setting on this (hence the step on the bezel rather than just using sheet for the back). I have a few ideas, but I'd really like to know how the pros would do it. TIA
