My husband is an inner city elementary school teacher and for the past several years the only field trip for Geology his students take have been to his classroom for a display he sets up each spring. This year he is hoping to really crank things up and is planning on building a small sluice and screens. We have quite a bit of staurolite x’s, pyrite and small quartz plates for the bags, but we don’t have any tumbled material.
Would anyone be willing to sell a SFR or MFR box of tumbles (2nds most desirably) for us to use for his school?
Thanks so much!
Ann

Let me know how much you want, fantistic5. I have about 5 pounds of Lake Superior agates that should be ready in a couple weeks, and I also have a couple bags of jaspers, and a few agates that I will sell very reasonably. Let me know.

I have a Treasure Chest that I fill with tumbled stones and give them away at all the shows I do. I love the way most of the kids will keep digging until they find the right one! I have a sign up that says Free Rock for all kids from 1 to 100 years old! It' funny but a lot of older ladies will spend as much time digging thru the chest as the kids!

A huge thank you to everyone who sent material for us to use on the science night. It was a huge success
MrCoffee sent us a fantastic box of tumbled stones, slabs and cabs. Going through his box I had to remind myself over and over that 'This is for the children'. My dirty little secret is that I did keep one slab and one cab Thomas's stuff is really first rate. I hope the kids appreciate the quality of the polished slabs and cabs they were getting.
Kap send a wonderful box of tumbled agate, petrified wood and un-tumbled apache tears. Next week will be the geology lesson in my husband's class room so the tears were a treat for me because I've almost finished my first ever batch of tears in the Lot-o. I checked them today and they are really shiny, so one more day should make them just perfect. They will be ideal to hand out next week in addition to some of the others we held back.
And to Thunder69 for the HUGE assortment of tumbles from Mississippi, Louisiana and Wyoming. My husband is also going to have a long wave UV display next week and the Sweetwater agate and petrified wood will come in super handy!!
Here are some of the pictures from Thursday nights science night:
And during the height of action, even the 'sand box' area was completely full and this action shot was the best I could get.

I think back in the day, where my 4th grade instructor would put on lapidary classes, and shows like that. It was always such an amazing experience! I think much of that, is why I'm in this hobby today, and keep coming back to it.

Let me know earlier next year, and if I get the chance to get to the river, I'll dig up some material where the kids can pan for gold. There's not much in there, but there's always SOME in there. Of course, you guys are going to have to learn so you can teach the kids.... WARNING - the gold panning is a little messy and always very popular. Sometimes the kids don't want to stop..... <G>

It is awesome to see children getting excited about rocks. It brings back fond memories when I was that age. Way to go.
