I finally started working on my basement shops during my vacation at Christmas. Didn't get anything done during January but have been back at it this month. Got the walls all framed, wiring roughed in for the rock shop and most of the drywall up in the rock shop. I'll finish the drywall today and start building the counters, an 8' one for silverwork, a 10' one for our 3 grinders (and a future small flat lap) and a 4'one for the trim saws. Got all 3 for $115 at our local building supply outlet store. The rock shop will be 13' by 16' and the other will be about 13' by 13'. I do want to run a hot water line to the rock shop so I can plumb right to Big Red, my Star Diamond grinder. I want to have Big Red drain directly out of the bottom to alleviate rock snot build up but I can't run a waste line out as the line exits the house about 5' above the basement floor. My solution is to use a couple of settling containers piped together and have the water drain into our sump pump hole. The sump pump never runs so this will help me make sure its in working condition if it ever would run. I'll post pics of that as I get it built. Looking at the rock shop from the future exercise room. Other wall of the exercise room. Rock shop. The silverwork bench will be on the left and rough rock storage along the back wall. Door in from the exercise room, silverworking bench will be on the right and slab storage on the left. To the left is the back wall where the cabbing bench will be. The trim saw bench will be along the short stud wall next to the door into the woodturning shop. Outside wall of the woodturning shop, this is where my lathe will be set up. Woodturning shop looking in the other direction. The counter tops.

Quite an ambitious project Tony! Sounds like you got a smokin' deal on those counter tops. Plumbing warm water directly to your cabber is going to be a big plus in the colder months for sure. Looking forward to seeing the progress on your shops!

Basements are killer work spots.

A basement in California is a wine cellar. Ambitious project, Tony, thanks for showing us more of your talents! Bet you can't wait until it's done.

WOW, Tony, what a big basement! Watch out, you could get lost in the maze you're about to raise there.
I like it, so far. Keep us updated please.

Thanks everyone. I've got the worktops up in the rock shop now, just need to spackle the walls, paint, hook up the electric and we're good to go. Our basement is about 1500 square feet so even with the 3 rooms I'm building there will still be plenty of room for storage.
