You look like one very happy fisherman! Doesn't get much better than eating what you caught and eating it outside. Looks like you netted a great catch/batch of rocks, too.

I have a 100' x 100' pond that i grow water lilies in Brian. It is shallow and full of life due to the lily habitat and warm water. You can throw a plastic worm and catch 1-4 pound bass about every cast. Or throw a live frog in and watch him get gulped. Odd, feeding is at a pinnacle at high sun in the summer. When the dragon flies are at full tilt. They are only fun to catch in the winter when the lilies are dormant. Otherwise they will tangle you every time.
How big is your rock pile ?

Fabulous trip. Sometimes I miss wintering in AZ. The ponds around here are all covered with ice and I thought about rock hunting but the boys wouldn't shovel the snow so I could look. Hey thanks for posting the pic of palm fiber, I'm pretty sure that's what I've found around here but didn't know what it was.

Fresh fish, a pile of nice rocks, and apparently good weather; hard to top that. Thanks for the show.

That's my kind of trip as well. Fishing and cool rocks, you just can't beat a trip like that.

Dang it, Brian, that's just not fair! It's been at least five years since we've been able to go to Alamo. I'm using my tablet (someone is using the pc for homework) so not able to see the photos tonight. You can bet I'll be checking them out tomorrow.
To everyone that has never been to Alamo, it is everything Brian said and more - although in the times I've been, didn't catch any fish. A very beautiful and peaceful place.
Looking forward to checking out the photos, glad that you and Christa had a great time. Thanks for posting.
Edit - Ah, man, AWESOME finds, Brian! In addition to not catching a single fish there, I've not found any palm either. This after running the gauntlet of AZ pin stripe machines, trying to get around to the northeast side of the lake, as per directions in the gem trails books.
Brian, have you ever gone over to the west side of the lake? There is a road that goes across the north end of the lake that is usually underwater. With the water low, it should be accessible now. There's another way in, from the north, but it is miles and miles out of the way to get there. I've only been over there once, talked to some of the people that live and mine over there. Some interesting folks, to say the least...

Nice to see every agate in AZ is leaping onto your tailgate. Those are some jaw dropping finds. I like that green moss one particularly. It looks like Maury Mt or Matra Mtn agate. Imagine a big ol cab with all that color in it. Just sayin. Nice fish too. Steve

dude - no rock is safe when Brian is in town. Love the fishin' pix too! Does that lake have any edible fish? Bluegills perhaps?

Hey thanks a bunch everyone! jamesp man that's not fair having your own bass pond! There's a small lake up in the Verde Valley that was stocked years ago with Florida strain large mouth.. those suckers are huge! Lots of lily pads and vegetation they hide in and easily snag your line. Takes a lotta finesse! My cousin pulled a 9 pounder out of there years ago with a soft plastic worm. The rock pile? Eh, it's getting there rockpickerforever we tried to get across the north side many years ago and got stuck in deep sand. Luckily someone happened by to pull us out. Never been on the west side other than close to the shore in a boat. I believe that long road your talking about starts in Yucca.. gonna have to explore that sometime. Maybe next January if you come back out we can do a trip out there.

Read more: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/64394/lake-trip?page=2&scrollTo=730081#ixzz2uj4Gn1atThere are 2 small ponds that are full of water lilies. One i put bass in and the other not. If going bait fishing i collect the frogs at 4-5 AM using a light as they are sitting on the bank. The pond with the bass has zero frogs and the other has a frog every foot. Too easy to catch w/a frog scooting across the surface pulling an unweighted line. Prefer plastic worms like your cousin was using. One of the best bass lakes in the US is Falcon Lake in south Texas.

That would be fun, Brian. A year from now will probably be the soonest I'll be able to take a vacation, LOL!
You probably got stuck about here, right? Yeah, not a good place to get stuck. When ya gonna get 4WD?
And all those dang branches, adding insult to injury, customizing the paint on your ride. Kind of spooky and dark... I was glad when we finally came back out!
I've been here a few times, most times the lake is too high to make the crossing at the north end. But you said they let a bunch of water out, so the level is down now. That should have exposed more rocks along the shore, huh? You are correct, I was talking about the long way around through Yucca. And it is definitely the LONG way around.
I called BLM (I think?) in AZ, and got a map with all the roads/trails on it in the area that are numbered routes. We started exploring around to the northeast of Wayside (4WD long wheelbase truck, doesn't do the ATV routes well ). It's a really cool place, would be even better if we had an ATV, Rhino or Polaris with AZ green sticker. CA green stickers are not recognized, since to get one, we don't have to have insurance on the vehicle.
