Hello! I have some Ocean Jasper 'beads' (actually chunks would be more like it, but they DO have a hole through them) - that are polished on the sides and top - but - the 'bottom' of the chunk appears to be quartz - unpolished and rough to the touch. Can I run them through my tumbler starting with a pre polish and then a polish stage? I'm not sure what I will do with them - I may end up setting some in a silver bezel or make pendants of a few. Here are a couple of pics : img65.photobucket.com/albums/v198/bostonpat/ocean31.jpg[/IMG] And..... img65.photobucket.com/albums/v198/bostonpat/ocean51.jpg[/IMG] Thanks! Pat

I know I would be very tempted to go to a polish (rather than pre ploish, just to be safe.) and see what happens. Those would be beautiful with a good shine to them.

Greetings All, A prepolish (with either 600 or 1000 grit) shouldn't remove any of the bulk from the beads, just make sure to use something for cushioning so they don't chip. Keep a couple out for comparison, and if after a week of this they don't show improvement try 220 for a week. Again for stones as hard as jasper it really shouldn't remove too much bulk, but you could stop the barrel ever other day to check them just in case. Once the bottoms are smooth enough (sounds bad but thats what you're after yes go back through the remaining prepolish and polish until they are shiney enough to please. WilliamC

Those are some beautiful stones. Your idea of bezeling them is a great one. Because of their shape they would also work great wrapped.

Use lots and lots of plastic pellets for the pre-polish and polish.
