Howdy folks, Nice day today so I went for a rock hunt in the Eagle Pass gravels. By the way, I was at the doctors office the other day and his whole parking lot was done in Eagle Pass gravel and there were agates all over the place. If I was feeling better I would've asked to hunt his lot. Anyway, my hunt was not super good but I picked up a little stuff that was interesting....Mel Big water worn hunk of colorful petrified wood, about a ten pounder: Another big one but only brown and white: Nice little banded agate geode: So so Rio grande moss agates: Misc Rio grande jaspers: Fancy pet wood I think: Really neat fossils in flint: Pink and olive green I don't now what, maybe rhyolite

The second pet wood is similar in shape and color to stuff i found at Zapata. The fossils in flint is real nice.

*L* Heck Jim, I was down there last year and there was a log in the La Grange gravel I couldn't even lift into my jeep. Was about a foot in diameter and maybe 30 inches long. Just that old darker colored wood but it was well agatized. Got my two largest hunks of palm out of that stuff too. Most the Eagle Pass stuff has been graded for size so one rarely finds agates or wood over ten pounds or so. Section of the pit they are in now is pretty sucky. Hardly any of the larger Rios I'm used to finding. Was fantastic several years ago. When the wife and I were moving, we stayed in a motel where they were using this Eagle Pass material for their flowerbeds. Stuff they were digging back then was super full of huge beautiful moss agates.....Mel

*L* My butcher's shop has the most agates I've ever seen in the landscape gravel but he won't let me have any. Every time I go there, there's this big fancy Rio grande poppy jasper just sitting there and it just kills me leaving it there.....Mel

*L* Scott, Folks here in Texas are very touchy about their property and property rights are strictly respected. I'd never trespass or take a thing without asking first. It just ain't Texas polite and in Texas, heck, politeness is everything.....Mel
