I am back to participating on the forum! I hope some of yall missed me but if not thats ok cause I sure missed yall! So what has been detracting me is I have started a blog about my Great Western Trip. Hopefully I will get to do a lot of rockhounding and along the way meet some members. In 2012 I headed west with my veggie oil burning diesel GMC pickup and slide in self contained camper. Left North Carolina and worked my way west until I got to Kingsville Tx and disaster struck. I had a bad diabetic ulcer on a toe and the podiatrist Dr. Klien in Corpus Christi said the bone was infected and amputation of part of the toe was needed. Needless to say I headed home! So I am all healed up and ready to try it again only this time I am taking my Ford F150 4x4 and same camper. My blog is at oneleggedcowboy.wordpress.com I hope you enjoy my travels and if you want to go hounding for rocks let me know please? I guess there is a way to put this on my profile? Departure date is Feb 27 2014!!!! I am excited!!!!

hahaha I thought you were telling us you had moved to another forum. I re read everything I type and still have typos.
Good to hear that you are up and running again. Good choice switching to the F150. Mine with only a 302 pulls my 22 foot trailer and both have a lot of heavy stuff in them like, uh, rocks and the pickup has a 70 gallon propane tank.
Not sure when you will be hitting Arizona but if you make some stops in Texas I will probably be gone before you get here. I am going to book mark this and try to keep up with your blog. This is my first foray into the life on the road thing and so far it has been pretty good and I am starting to get some of the learning curve chipped away.
I hope I run into you (not literally) somewhere down the line. My plan is the north south thing. Take care Jim

Hey Wampidy I am leaving next werk and going straight to Quartzite. I hope the Rock club there is still operating so I can get some instruction. I am self taught and would like to take some of their classes. Plus that is also a nice warm place to start hounding. Are you still going to be there? I should get there about March 4 or 5th.

When you get there, keep your eyes and ears open. Things should be warmed up enough to bring out the snakes and scorpions. If you never got out in the desert, bring a multi-tool or something similar with pliers to pull out cactus spines. - Just a heads up.

If you come through South Dakota, I know some folks around Rapid City who would be glad to take you out to the Badlands to look for Fairburn agates. See if you can get hold of sdgoldpanner. He's a member on here, and is always looking for an excuse to go out there hounding. He may even take you into the TeePee Canyon area to look for agates.
I'd be happy to meet you out there, but health problems make the 7 hour road trip impossible for now.

Welcome back! If you get his way look me up, I am sure we can find a rock or two.
Rodney saw 2 snakes on Monday, so as he said, "winter is officially over" in Arizona.

The weather report says I will still be here. Message me when you arrive. Jim
Edited to say that it looks like the rock club meets every thursday from 2 until 4. That is from a february planner so I am not positive about march.

Ok guys I am gonna hold yall to the hounding trips! Cactus thorns that need pliers to remove? Yikes! I never been west of North Carolina other than my abortive trip last time. I got thru Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and part of Texas before my toe exploded and I had to return. Texas at Lake Cristi is where I got the rock fever, pretty flint and red something in landscape gravel! LOL It tumbles pretty good, eventually that is hard stuff!!!

Mark I saw where you signed on to follow my Great Western Trip blog! I cant make it thru your town because Quartzite rock club requires you to go thru several orientations before taking classes and using their shop. Its 2400 plus miles there and the earliest I can leave is this Thurs. which gives me barely enough time to make it for orientation at 8:00am Thurs the 6th. Sorry pardner, I try to catch you this summer! Susan retires May 31st so she can come then.

If you come near Wickenburg Arizona, let me know. I will PM you my phone number. I know of a few glory holes to hound! I have been hounding twice in the last week and have not seen one snake! Guess they really like Rodney! LOL Sheri

I'll be looking forward to reading about your trip. Looks like your already off and running! jakesrocks I'd love to connect with your sd friends if they'd consider showing me where to go up there. My buddy and u made it as far as Oglala grasslands in Nebraska and found a couple pseudo - Fairburn agates but nothing great. Looking forward to getting out with everyone else as we start thinking of warmer weather

Another member you could check for South Dakota is Roger. (Roger Vesely). He lives around Rapid City, and knows all of the hot spots for TeePee canyon agates. He's on here from time to time to post pics.
